Canadian Wedding Industry Awards 2014.

There was much anticipation here at the studio leading up to the CWIA gala. Everyone at Ikonica has worked so hard over the past year and we’re consistently proud of the work we produce, but when the announcement came that we had been given not one but two awards for Ontario, we felt so honoured. To have our work lauded by some of the greatest in the industry was a true gift. Thank you.

In turn, we must acknowledge some people without whom we could not have won these awards. Anne Anderson was the mastermind behind Sarah and Scott’s Muskoka Cottage Wedding, for which we won the award for best Design/Decor/Details Coverage. You can find their wedding in the pages of the Winter/Spring 2015 issue of Wedluxe Magazine. Melissa Samborski of One Fine Day designed and planned the Bashir wedding for which we took home the best Overall Wedding Coverage award. It’s still under wraps, but we hope to be able to show you the results soon. Keep your eyes peeled.

Once again, we’d like to thank everyone in the industry for their support over the last year. We’re looking forward to another incredible season in 2015.

Gabi & Sam: Made to last

When one of Toronto’s premier event planners, Gabi of Spectacular Spectacular, announced her own upcoming wedding, we were honoured to be asked to capture her event. She and her fiancé Sam brought Jackson out to her family farm for their engagement session on a glorious sun-filled evening, and the results were pure magic. It was a chance for Gabi and Sam to take an evening’s rest from the adrenaline of city life at the peak of wedding season, and spend some peaceful moments together surrounded by the simple beauty of Ontario farmland.

Our shoot started with the golden sunlight of the evening already pouring through the trees as our couple cruised up the road to the farm in a pristine white MG roadster. The car was a memento of a time when things were made to last. It would be on the road forever, if you put enough love into it. It was the perfect place to start shooting.

From there we moved into the surrounding farmland. Gabi and Sam strolled across the sweeping fields amid the grass and the sky and the silence, hand in hand, wrapped in sunlight. The setting couldn’t have been more intimate. Their love for one another couldn’t have been more clear. As the light faded away, and our engagement session drew to a close, one thing was certain: Gabi and Sam are made to last.

Zahra and Don: I Just Wanna Stop.

Zahra and Don were set to wed in the summer of 2011. Plans were running smoothly; the formidable wedding wheel was fully engaged. But three weeks before the day of, the couple did the unthinkable deed, the deed that so few couples ever have the courage to do: They called it off—cancelled their wedding! They needed time to think, time to work on their relationship. So they postponed the wedding till June of the following year. They strengthened their ties, and the couple continued as promised along the path to marriage—this time stronger, happier, and decidedly deeper in love. It takes a smart couple to realize that if you want to keep loving someone, you may just have to stop.

Zahra loved the design of her original invitations; so much that she and planner Melissa Haggerty decided to reuse them by crossing out the original date and writing in the new one underneath. The guests were thoroughly amused!

Planner Melissa Haggerty and photographer Jackson Huang stopped traffic with the help of four policemen on bicycle, seconds before a 2000 person protest overwhelmed Bloor Street.

As a child, Don spent many hours in The Conservatory studying music. Planner Melissa Haggerty thought it apt that Don play Zahra down the aisle. So he bought a piano to practice and told none but Zahra, who, after walking down the aisle, sat down at the piano and played the final note.

Zahra and Don took a page from the “You are My Sunshine” Style File in Wedluxe which staged a colour scheme of yellow, black and white. Planner Melissa Haggerty arranged the chairs to mimic piano key formation to echo Don’s musical tribute to Zahra. Lidia Taconelli of Fiori filled the room with enormous yellow garden roses that shined boldly against the crispness of black and white.
